For all you freshmen out there: the beginning of your college experience is just around the corner! I can only imagine all the things going through your head right now: How will college be different from high school? What will the dorms be like? What if I don’t know my major yet? Where do I buy my books?... the list goes on and on and on…Fortunately, you are not going to go through this alone. Your InsideTrack Coach will work with you to make sure that your college experience is everything you always dreamed it would be – and it surely will be! InsideTrack provides one-on-one coaching to college students expressly for you to feel supported while you are accomplishing… well, basically anything and everything… Your individual coach will be working with you all year on whatever is important to YOU – not your professors, not your parents, not your friends, but you!
You may want to spend some time as your summer is winding down thinking about your hopes and dreams for your college experience. This will get you set up for those early conversations with your Coach. Here’s what to do: imagine that you’re graduating from college and looking back at your four years. What would you have wanted your experience to be like? This website might help you get inspired, if you aren’t already: www.43things.com. Lots of people want to become fluent in French, others want to find their passion, or get good grades. Some even want to go sky diving.
You will start talking to your InsideTrack coach before the semester even starts so that the two of you can start getting to know each other, and so that your Coach can start getting a picture of what you want your freshman year to look like. So, your coach will be contacting you via phone, email, or Facebook – probably a combination of the three. I know that you are enjoying those last days of summer break, but believe me, you want to talk to your Coach. Not only will you be setting up your first meeting, but your Coach can answer all sorts of questions about starting college and about campus resources like dorms, classes, books and clubs.
Once the semester starts, you and your Coach will start your regular meetings. Early on, a lot of it is getting to know you. The more your Coach knows about you, the more your Coach can be a support system for you – whether it be by recommending a great club on campus to check out or helping you get ready for that on-campus job interview, talking you through your upcoming presentation, or serving as a sounding board for deciding which sorority / fraternity to join…it’s all fair game.… And pretty soon, talking with your Coach about all that you have going on every week will seem as natural as catching up with a friend at Starbucks.
